The May Elections in Handsworth Wood
A few people look a bit bothered about my article. Tried writing to Dr Kaur, but there appears to be no such e-mail address. Pity because it was written in such polite terms.
I tried responding but the e-mail bounced back. Both Councillors Hamilton and Atwal owe their success completely to Arjun Singh who worked with Khalid Mahmood and a prominent member of the Soho Road Gurdwara to get elected in 2004. Arjun had previously pledged to donate a considerable sum of money to campaign against Khalid, next moment we find them working together. Khalid was rather desperate at that time for support from Sikhs in the former Sandwell Ward.
People came to the meeting who were not entitled to do so. Although they didn't live in the ward some were on the electoral register at addresses in it. Some quite small properties showed a large number of residents living there. I wrote to the Labour Party at the Regional Office with evidence - twice; I spoke to Birmingham's legal director and the Chief Elections Officer who told me they were too busy dealing with the postal vote issue! Arjun gave one reason for leaving Labour as his dissatisfaction with postal voting. Placing people improperly on the electoral register is just as fraudulent but he remains silent on this matter.
Dr Kaur accuse me of calling Arjun a gangster. My article doesn't anywhere say that!
As for working with Arjun, it is difficult to do that when you can't rely on someone, apart from the clear political difference. What you see is not what you get in this case. Sorry.

I am disappointed that you are running Arjun down again.
I had done my homework so when he came door knocking i asked him why he left new Labour he confirmed what had been reported in the media in 2005. According to the newspaper reports of 2005, which you can find on the web, he left Labour because he was upset at Labours voting corruption, didnt agree with the decision to go to war in Iraq and did not agree with the way public sector reforms were being done which was increasing people in needs suffering. This was before the infamous Labour councillors were confirmed guilty of banana republic vote rigging, (when Albert Bore, was claiming they would be found not guilty). Before the problems at Dudley Rd Hospital and hundreds of job losses emerged and before the Lozells riots which resulted in two youth being killed. So as far as I am concerned, his predictions of new Labour ruining this area have been proven accurate. His praises are sung by the Police, for preventing reprisal attacks by Sikh youth after a black gang had run amok down Copthall Rd, injuring my elderly dad with a knife. Arjun raised a 5000 signature petition for CCTV cameras, which is recorded in Council minutes. His praises aren't just sung by the Gurdwaras, but also the Christian Churches for his community cohesion work. This is why people like me have started to listen to him.
Men with glass houses should not throw stones, you also left new Labour, and Arjun has never attacked you for doing that. In fact, how come you havent said anything about Paulette hamilton who attacked you in her leaflets, when you too left new Labour, by calling you a failed spiteful looney lefty who has ganged up against her?
If the Councils Legal Director and new Labours officers refused to take action regarding your allegations of fraud against him, then obviously they believed there was NO case to answer. They believed him to be innocent, otherwise they would have acted, as they did against the six guilty Labour Cllrs caught committing fraud.
There are only five people I have ever heard say a bad word against Arjun, you,
Gudial Atwal, the old Asian councillor with the gigantic beard and terribly bad breath, Cllr Kooner, who no one ever sees, Paulette Hamilton, who is only interested in helping her black churches, and, that old bald little BNP man who hates everyone.
I reckon you lot are just jealous, because Arjuns a good looking 30 something, intelligent, articulate, sassy, successful and popular man, who a lot people regard as a local hero! He got more votes than seven other poeople who won thier elections. He got 500 more votes than Alber Bore! I dont think we have heard the last of Mr Singh yet.

John, in your blog tirade against arjun singh, you finished by saying
"Since no one will act then the door is wide open to opportunists, GANGSTERS and all comers".
You did call him a Gangster !
Do the decent thing and apologise to him, in public!
