Bombs via UK
At home again and catching up with what's happening in the Middle East. Nothing has changed it seems with Israel continuing to be allowed to kill and maim women and children in the Lebanon, in Gaza at will. According to PNN News that's not all that they're doing by a long way, yet Blair is following his line of unquestionning support to Washington. In an interview with Channel 4 News, Margaret Beckett, now Foreign Secretary, expressed her views about aircraft carrying the "bunker-busting" bombs.
The reports on developments (Channel 4 News 2nd August) show the extent to which tacit allowance of arms allows.
The studio discussion shows Blair talking about the "arc of extremism", just as Bush determined the reality of "an Axis of evil". In this Al Quaeda, Hisbollah and Hamas are lumped together. It is just adherence to this simplistic notion which is getting us nowhere. It is extremely dangerous in that it fuels grievances of the so-called moderate Muslims that Blair wishes to convince he says by diseminating "values", realising at long last that violent response is being counter-productive.
